About Us
The Congregation of what is now known as “All Saints’ Anglican Church, Newark, New Jersey is a parish in Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA). We were once with the American Episcopal Church, until Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion established CANA – Convocation of Anglicans in North America in the year 2003. This was aimed at making sure that both old and young people from African and Caribbean countries, plus native Americans receive the good News of Salvation without any form of language barrier. To make this an inclusive Church, and a Place of worship for all people, we established both English and Igbo services, since we have people of diverse nationalities worshiping with us-Ethiopians, people from Bangladesh, Nigerians, Cameroonians, West Indies, Caribbeans, Ghanians, etc.
Ven. Dr. Paul Ekezie, welcomed the move and immediately resigned his position as a rector with the Diocese of Newark, and took over the new Ministry, and All Saints’ Anglican Church, Newark was founded in January 1st, 2003, at 141 Western Parkway, Irvington NJ. 07111 with Sir. Dr. Ken Igwe as the first Senior Warden, David Amanqua, Junior Warden, Rev. Joseph Nwachukwu, member, Lady Chima Ekezie, Lizz Ottom Elder Otto, Dame Ivy Onyejekwe, Caudette Cammock, Monica Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell as founding members.
We started our first service in January 2003, at elder Otto’s living room. When Ven. Dr. Ekezie provided such leadership that within a month of the founding of All Saints’ Church, Elder Otto’s living room could no longer accommodate the increased membership, relocation became imperative. So, we rented a space on Nye Avenue, Irvington. While in Nye Avenue, the bishop of Mbaise Diocese worshipped with us in 2004, and the Church saw more increase in membership.
When membership increased, we again moved to Stuyvesant Avenue in Irvington. While in Stuyvesant Avenue, we were blessed with the visits of the former Bishop of Aba Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Uwaezuoke and wife, and a Primatal visit of His Grace, the Most Rev. Dr. Akinola, the Primate and the Archibishop of Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion.
It was during the Primates visit that he handed over to the Reformed Episcospal Diocese of the Middle East and Mid Atlantic to be giving us pastoral oversight.
With much increase in our Congregational strength, Reformed Episcopal Church helped us to relocate to 173 Sherman Avenue, Newark, New Jersey, 07114, where we are now. With time, the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion opened three new Diocese here in America, and zoned us to CANA Diocese of the East. Since the inception of All Saints’ Anglican Church, Newark, we have had four Nigerian Anglican Bishops worship with us. In 2014, the new Primate and the Archibiship of Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, His Grace, the most Rev. Nicholas Oko worshipped in our Church along side with six other Nigerian Archbishops and our home Bishop, the Rt. Julian Dobbs.
Within the short existence, we have planted two new Churches headed by Rev. Canon Samuel Orimogunje in Jamaica Queens and Rev. Canon Joseph Nwachukwu in Bronx New York. We have 17 Knights, three Dames. We have baptized eighty six infants and adults and confirmed forty three people in the Church. We have instituted both Mothe’s Union and Guild. All Saints’ Anglican Church has five ordained priests, Ven. Dr. Paul U. Ekezie, Rector; Ven. Prof. Akin Ige, Rev. Dr. Peter Patras, from Bangladesh, Rev. Canon Timothy Mbiaka and Rev. James Nwogu, many are non-stipendiary.
Our rapid growth has necessitated looking to buy a bigger place to accommodate our numerous Outreach Ministries, All Saints’ Food on Wheels, the Soup Kitchen, Marriage Counselling, Teenage pregnancy counselling, etc. We have a dedicated Bank account we can either use as Down Payment renovate any building we buy to our own Church taste.
All Saints’ Church Mission:
Through worship, prayer, teaching, practical instructions and fellowship: We seek to form the essentials of Anglican way to adults, that they might mature and equipped to disciple the nation according to Jesus’ great commission (Mathew 28:18-29)
Through the love of Christ our Savior, all will be well.
In His Righteousness:
Ven Dr. Paul U. Ekezie: JP, Bsc, Msc. Dip. Theol. D. Min., DD. Rector
